Torrance, CA (May 11, 2011) – Phenomenex Inc., a global leader in the research and manufacture of advanced technologies for the separation sciences, announced today that the company has been invited to participate in a career education day focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Employees will engage high school juniors and seniors in a discussion about careers in STEM and the education necessary to become a professional in those fields.
The Generation STEM Symposium, taking place at June 2 at the Loker Student Union on the California State University Dominguez Hills campus, will give students the chance to interact with employer engineers and scientists as they demonstrate products developed and manufactured in the South Bay and discuss methods used in the lab to bring creative and innovating ideas to reality.
The symposium is part of an ongoing job shadow and career fair program based on local employer participation. Student visits provide interactive learning sessions with staff scientists and engineers. This immersion in STEM applications greatly enhances student understanding of what is taught in the classroom. Students visiting Phenomenex experience firsthand the wide range of opportunities open to graduates with STEM degrees, including research and development, product marketing, and quality and production management.
